Why we move: Family, Faith & Second Starts

If you’ve been following along, you’ve already met powerful stories in Part 1 [Why we move: 4 stories of grit & heart] and Part 2 [Why We Move: More Voices, Same Heart] that capture what Malibu Moves is all about. We’re closing the series with three voices that embody what Malibu Moves is all about: belonging, resilience, and purpose. After the Franklin and Palisades fires, this weekend isn’t just a race—it’s a community fundraiser. 100% of profits support Malibu schools and local recovery. Your miles matter here.

ETHAN & PEYTON MARQUEZ: LOVE IN MOTION

When Ethan lines up, he isn’t alone—he’s racing as a duo team with his son, Peyton, rolling beside him in a racing wheelchair. Together they’ve covered half and full marathons, turning effort into connection and miles into meaning. Before they take on the TCS New York City Marathon as a duo on November 2, they’ll join us at Zuma Beach.

For Ethan and Peyton, Malibu isn’t just a tune-up; it’s a reminder that access and inclusion are the point. With UCLA Health in Peyton’s care network and as our presenting partner, their story ties care, community, and celebration into one shared finish line. Ethan’s goal is simple to say, hard to do—race sub-1:40 while pushing—but the result is bigger than time: we do hard things, together.

Why we love this:

Ethan & Peyton turn the course into a family story—and show how inclusion elevates the entire field.

SEDA BATMANIAN: resilience, seasoned with joy

Seda ran her first half 12 years ago and has been hooked ever since. After a hip stress fracture, she kept lifting, walking, and doing what she could until she could run again. At 57, she’s lining up for her 7th Malibu half—because movement is living, and Malibu is pure joy.

SEDA embodies graceful resilience and the long game of showing up.

Why we love this:

Seda embodies graceful resilience and the long game of showing up.

AUDREY BONNEVILLE: A habit that stuck

Audrey started training during lockdown, discovered how good it felt to move, and never stopped. With a travel-heavy job, she treats running like portable therapy—head-clearing, mood-brightening, and grounding wherever she lands. Now she’s back in her favorite city, ready for another oceanfront half and a post-run stroll on the pier.

Why we love this:

Audrey shows how a simple routine can anchor us through changing seasons.
