Why we move: more voices, same heartbeat
In Part 1 [Why we move: 4 stories of grit & heart] , we shared four powerful journeys that capture what Malibu Moves is all about. Here in Part 2, five more community members remind us that movement can rebuild confidence, friendships, and even whole communities. After the Franklin and Palisades fires, this weekend isn’t just a race—it’s a community fundraiser. 100% of profits go back to Malibu schools and local recovery. Your miles matter here.
SHANNON BRADY (Culver Kids Run Club): Building confidence, one kid at a time
Shannon leads Culver Kids Run Club, an introductory team that turns movement into confidence, friendship, and lifelong habits. Her athletes loved the Malibu Moves Kids Run in 2024 and can’t wait to come back to the ocean start line. Off the track, Shannon has walked through personal challenges—including a long road to motherhood—and she pours that empathy into helping kids find their stride.
RYAN TORRES: Back from injury, chasing seconds
Ryan has been running for 15+ years. Last year, a rolled ankle and torn ligaments forced him to slow down and learn patience. He rebuilt methodically—mobility, strength, and steady miles—until he felt like himself again. Now he’s returning to the half marathon with one goal: enjoy the course and chip time off the clock along the PCH.
CHARLES STELZRIED: Movement is life
For Charles, movement is non-negotiable: trail runs, beach walks, any chance to get outside. When the blues creep in, a walk or run reliably lifts him up. He even helped a friend out of depression by encouraging daily walks until the light returned.
This fall, he’s running the half to celebrate Malibu’s beauty—and to support a community rebuilding together. “Racing in and for Malibu felt destined”, he shared.
Join the movement (and the mission)!

New: Coastal Quest Challenge — race the Zuma Dash on Saturday + your distance on Sunday and earn 3 medals + 2 shirts (and serious bragging rights)
Be part of something bigger than a finish time—sign up and move for Malibu.
Coming Next: The Series Finale
In Part 3, we’ll go deeper with three powerful stories — Ethan & Peyton Marquez, Seda Batmanian, and Audrey Bonneville. Together they remind us that movement is about connection, resilience, and hope.
If you have a story to share, we’d love to hear it. Your miles matter — and so does your voice.
