Meet the Team
-
“Don't compare yourself to others. Everyone is at a different point in their journey.
If you run, you are a runner!”
-
“Drink your water!’
It’s important to stay hydrated while doing anything physical, whether you’re going for a short or long run, walk, or hike. Keep your body hydrated with water, electrolytes, etc.”
-
“Running has taught me a lot—especially that it’s okay to have tough days. There are times when you’re tired, your legs feel heavy, and you just want to stop. But I’ve learned to trust the work I’ve put in and remind myself that I can do hard things.
Also, progress isn’t just about faster times—it’s about showing up, staying consistent, and being kind to yourself through the ups and downs.”
-
“When it comes to training, consistency over perfection wins every time.
If you don't think you need anti-chafing balm, yes, you do!”
-
“If this is your first 5K or half marathon, trust me, you’ll never regret showing up.
Now is the best time to start working toward your goals. Finish your first race and let it lead you to greatness!”
-
“Consistency is the biggest factor in running success, and making plans to run with others is very helpful.
Solo runs can be beneficial with clearing your headspace, but posting your runs on a running app helps with accountability.”
-
“Just remember this is YOUR race. No other person on the course has your skills, or strength, or endurance, and so you’re not running against anyone.
You’re running against who you were yesterday and the day before that. If your best race doesn’t place in the top 10, you still ran YOUR BEST and that means you’ll continue to grow.”
-
“The thing most runners deal with is the mental aspect of running long distances.
My tip is to break down the distance into smaller manageable chunks and then celebrate when you hit those distances, ending with the big celebration when you cross the finish line.”
-
“Rest days are just as important as training days. Your body needs time to recover, rebuild, and come back even stronger.
Listening to my body—whether that means taking a rest day, stretching more, or prioritizing sleep—has helped me stay consistent.”
-
“One of the biggest lessons I've learned from my running journey is that pace doesn't define a runner.
I've learned to embrace being a slow runner and to find joy in my journey.”
-
“It’s okay to have slower runs; they help with endurance and speed. Also, who cares about your pace!
The biggest reward is watching my daughter mimic me in wanting to move her body. PRs are cool, but setting an example is everything.”
-
“Our bodies can do much more than we believe. People are often shocked when I say I enjoy half marathons because I don't look like a typical runner.
This inspires others to think, 'If Elizabeth can do it, I can do it!' All it takes is putting one foot in front of the other.”
-
“The struggle is in the mind. I was initially intimidated by the prospect of running 13 miles with hills but participating in a race with encouraging runners got me through it.
My advice? Think happy thoughts and keep moving.”
-
“My biggest lesson to anyone who is just starting their running journey is to make sure you are having fun!
Running can feel intimidating or daunting at first, but being a part of a running club or community can help bring out the joy of it.“
-
“Having a training plan for the competition will prevent injuries and bring joy at the end of the goal.”
-
"Take it easy in any race. There will be hills in the Malibu Moves half marathon course.
Always have fun, and stick to your goal pace."
-
“Consistency is key. I didn’t run at all until last year, but now I’m training for my first marathon
The lesson I’ve learned is that if you stick with it, even when you feel like you’re struggling, you’ll surprise yourself with how far you can go.”
-
“Tuning is a metaphor for life: the highs and lows, successes and failures, struggles and exhilaration.
Getting to share these experiences with friends and family is everything.”
-
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that consistency matters more than perfection. It’s about showing up for yourself, even on tough days, and celebrating small victories. I’ve also learned to tune into my body, understanding when to challenge myself and when to take a step back, and that running is as much about mental resilience as it is about physical strength.”
-
“Some tips that I have learned from my running journey are to enjoy the journey and run the mile that you are in.
Also, embrace the hills. The hills help build up your endurance.”
-
“My #1 training tip is 'Slow is good.'
#2 is consistency and community. Running with a group helped me tremendously, and I strive to provide that same support to others..”
-
“Before you can transform your body, you need to transform your mindset. It's about cultivating a positive and healthy mindset first.
Believe in your ability to make changes, embrace the journey, and stay committed to your goals. Your body will follow where your mind leads. Remember, lasting change starts from within!”
-
“Rest days are not just for lounging. Make sure you stretch and foam roll and if you can, some yoga too.
For the Malibu Moves half Marathon, practice hill running and take it easy on the first 6 miles. Focus on the views, not the climbs.”
-
“Consistency is everything.
Prioritize good sleep and rest days.
Strength training can prevent injuries and will make you a better runner.
Treat yourself to those new shoes, that’s the missing key! ”
