A Celebration of Community, Resilience, and Movement
On October 25–26, Zuma Beach will transform into a festival of movement, joy, and community spirit as Malibu welcomes the second annual IPS Malibu Moves presented by UCLA Health. Thanks to the generous support of International Protective Service, Inc. (IPS) and UCLA Health, along with other community sponsors, this event has quickly become more than just a race—it is a weekend-long celebration where neighbors, families, and friends come together to walk, run, volunteer, and cheer—all in the name of resilience and rebuilding.
The weekend offers something for everyone: a 1K Kids’ Run and 1-Mile Zuma Dash for all ages on Saturday, along with family activities including yoga and sound bath by Veritas Yoga Malibu, arts and crafts hosted by Pepperdine’s Center for the Arts, bouncy castles, and a Kids Zone full of fun. On Sunday, participants can choose from a 5K, 10K, or Half Marathon, each set along the iconic Pacific Coast Highway with sweeping views of the ocean and mountains. Every distance is walker-friendly, reinforcing Malibu Moves’ mission to create an inclusive event that celebrates progress, not pace.
Movement for a Cause
What makes Malibu Moves truly unique is its purpose. 100% of event net profits will be donated to charity. This year, organizers estimate at least $50,000 for youth-oriented programs, including the Malibu Education Foundation and The Emily Shane Foundation, and another $20,000 for the Community Fire Brigade, with final totals to be announced after expenses and liabilities are reconciled.
For students like Mishen, a 9th grader at Malibu High School, the impact of these donations goes far beyond numbers.
“The fires were really tough on Malibu students. We missed over 20 days of school during the last school year because of the fires, power cuts, and mudslides. The hardest part was having friends who lost homes—really everything they had—and then had to find other places to live. It was really great when we were able to get together again at school, hang out, and play sports after school. It helped us all get back a bit of our normal life. It’s going to take a while for Malibu to recover, but at least we have each other.”
Stories like Mishen’s are at the heart of Malibu Moves. Every step taken on race weekend is a step toward rebuilding and strengthening the bonds that hold the community together.
More Than a Race
Malibu Moves is not just about the finish line. The weekend is designed to be a festival of wellness, community, and connection. Saturday’s family-friendly programming ensures that even non-runners can feel part of the event, whether they are joining yoga on the sand, painting a cheer sign for loved ones, or enjoying the Kids Zone. Sunday’s races culminate in a Post-Race Festival, complete with music, food trucks, wellness activations, and a charity beer garden sponsored by locals’ favorite Malibu Brewing Company.
This balance of movement and celebration makes Malibu Moves a powerful antidote to the grief and disruption the community has faced. It offers a space for joy, healing, and hope—all while directly benefiting local causes.
“Community is at the core of building resilience. After the devastating and traumatic events that have impacted our beloved town, I knew Malibu Moves needed to step up and play a significant role in boosting morale, bringing people together, and most importantly, raising funds for local charities. We are stronger together, and on October 25–26 we’ll be taking Malibu by foot to show this town’s strength and resilience.”
