Challenge

  • The Coastal Quest Challenge is a two-day experience for participants who complete the 1-Mile Zuma Dash on Saturday and any Sunday race (5K, 10K, or Half Marathon). Challenge participants receive three medals, two shirts, and complimentary Beer Garden access on Sunday.

    The Coastal Quest Challenge is a two-day experience designed to make your Malibu Moves weekend even more memorable.

    You’ll run or walk the 1-Mile Zuma Dash on Saturday, then complete the Half Marathon Sunday. You’ll also get unlimited access to the post-race Beer Garden on Sunday, included at no additional cost.

  • Our worry-free policy allows you to register early for the best price with total peace of mind. While processing fees are non-refundable, your entry fees and add-ons are protected as follows:

    • Through June 30: 100% Refund or FREE Deferral

    • July 1–31: 70% Refund or FREE Deferral

    • August 1–31: 50% Refund or $15 Deferral Fee

    • Sept 1–Oct 15: No Refund | $25 Deferral Fee

    • Oct 16–Oct 24: No Refund | $50 Deferral Fee

Course Map

Experience the beauty of the Malibu coast with a rewarding challenge that starts and finishes at the iconic Zuma Beach.

The route, USATF measured, showcases an out-and-back journey along the Pacific Coast Highway, featuring gentle rolling hills that add an exhilarating twist to your run.

The course begins at 27 feet above sea level, peaks at 172 feet, and has a total elevation gain of 345 feet. It has a relatively flat start, a series of rolling hills in the middle, and a gradual descent toward the end. It's a course that tests your determination and rewards your effort.

To embrace this adventure and enjoy every moment, preparation is key. Incorporating hill training into your routine will equip you with the strength and confidence to navigate the course's undulations.

This isn't just a physical test; it's a mindset challenge that promises a sense of achievement and stunning views.

  • Along the course, there will be 5 water stations with water and electrolytes by Voli Wellness. The turnaround point is approx. at mile 8.

    For safety reasons, all water stations are located on the ocean side of Pacific Coast Highway. Outbound runners will need to cross inbound runners' traffic to reach the aid stations and are asked to yield to inbound runners when possible.

  • Energy gels will be provided by Wipala Snacks and are located half a mile past the turnaround point.

  • Restrooms are located at every water station.

  • Basic First AID will be available at all water stations and at the Finish Line.

  • For safety reasons, all water stations are located on the ocean side of Pacific Coast Highway. Outbound runners will need to cross inbound runners' traffic to reach the aid stations and are asked to yield to inbound runners when possible.

  • At Malibu Moves, we offer pace groups for a range of abilities to ensure every participant has a comfortable race day experience. Whether you’re aiming for a fast finish or taking a more relaxed approach, you can expect pace groups ranging from 1:30 for experienced runners to 4:00 for those who prefer to take their time and enjoy the course. The available pace times include 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, 2:45, 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, and 4:00.

    No matter your pace, we welcome everyone to join and make the most of this exciting race day experience!

  • Your course starts and ends at Zuma Beach, taking you along Pacific Coast Highway to Nicolas Canyon and back. Along the way, you'll encounter gentle rolling hills and some of Malibu's most iconic landmarks.
